Colours of Love 2019

Lying in a hammock gently swaying between two palm trees, I gazed out at the magical scene before me, at all the happy joyous people dancing their truth, hugging and connecting with each other.

Letting their inner child out in a gigantic swimming pool illuminated with glowing purple lights. I felt an immense feeling of gratitude for being part of such a beautiful community and the journey that had taken me halfway across the world to experience this amazing weekend at Colours of Love.

The Event

Colours of Love is an intimate transformational gathering of artists, dreamers, and big thinkers that encourages human connection, dance therapy, and personal growth. It’s extremely rare to attend an event with such good music and vibes in a luxury setting.

For the last 2 years, Colours of Love has been held at the stunning Baba Beach Club in Phuket, Thailand. Designed by music lover Wan Issara, Baba is one of the only luxury hotels in the world designed specifically for house and techno enthusiasts. The 5 star resort boasts multiple Funktion 1 soundsystems (even in the restaurant) and an epic pool that was perfect for dancing in day and night. If you got too hot during the day, you could either drink a cocktail in the pool bar, or cool down at the beach which was only a few meters away.

Comfort at its best…

Even the bathrooms at Baba Beach Club were a pleasure to visit with automatic heated toilet seats and bidets. Guests had the option to stay on site at one of Baba’s lavish villas and eat delicious Thai, Japanese, or Italian food at the resort restaurant. On Thursday and Friday, everyone sat down to enjoy a communal lunch and dinner cooked by Baba chefs while watching a spectacular show put on by fire and dance performers. The resort was even further transformed by a handcrafted installation by GingerWork Productions that also served as a trippy DJ booth- a projection mapped 3D lasercut hexagon that was brought all the way from Vietnam and assembled using hundreds of hand tied knots.

No Struggle

After years of experiencing the struggles associated with tent camping at festivals, partying with the comforts of such a quality venue was the best! Colours of Love is the perfect event for anyone who would like to enjoy good music and transformational workshops without the harsh environment typically associated with festivals.

Expansion

The theme of this year’s Colours of Love was Expansion. The event producers, Guinevere Rhonwen and Liz LaRouge of the duo Wild Sirenda have worked tirelessly to create an annual retreat that prioritizes building consciousness and human connection over musical programming. While there were a range of talented DJs and vocalists who performed over 5 days, most of the event programming centered on workshops such as Shamanic sound healing and Yin yoga. Usually at events like this you plan your day around which DJs are playing; however Guinevere and Liz preferred to create a environment that encouraged spontaneous flow state and never posted the DJ lineup.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I had no expectations about attending Colours of Love and never guessed that it would be such a meaningful experience. It was the first event I’ve ever been to where attendees were really encouraged to get out of their comfort zone to trigger personal growth. Since there was never any music scheduled that conflicted with the workshops, there was large group participation and and emotional discussions. There were many tears shed and breakthrough moments during the workshops. In one exercise, you were encouraged to delve into the deepest part of yourself and talk about difficult subjects, like what you would say to your parents that you had never had the courage to say before.

Vending at Colours of Love

One of the highlights of Colors of Love was the Cacao ceremony that led into a Dream Activation. Each attendee was required to stand in a Dream portal and talk about their dream before everyone else. The intention was that by saying our hopes and dreams out loud in such a positive environment, we would manifest them in reality.

Activate Your Dreams

By forcing you to be vulnerable and talk about your hopes for the future, the Dream Activation was a powerful experience. It was so inspirational to hear everyone speak about their goals and realize that we all shared the same vision for our planet. Several people connected with each other after hearing others discuss shared dreams about buying land to create conscious communities or building housing with sustainable materials. Later that night, everyone wrote their dreams on a dream board and danced around it, uplifting our dreams with positive energy.

A Global Family

What made Colours of Love so special were the amazing people who traveled from countries as far away as Brazil and Iran to attend. It was my first event outside of Burning Man where I found an inspirational community of artists and dreamers dedicated to raising higher consciousness and enjoying life to the fullest.

When everyone came together to dance wildly on the starlit dancefloor, it was a celebration of life. I left Colours of Love feeling like I was part of a beautiful global family.

Manifest the Future

I really hope that in the upcoming years, this movement of empowerment and freedom will spread around the world. I’m already looking forward to more magical adventures with the love tribe. If you would like to attend, participate, or contribute to making the next event happen, register on the Colours of Love website or contact Guinevere & Liz at info@wearecoloursoflove.com. The next edition will be in Thailand at Baba Beach Club March 19-24!
